The Mongol rally is an annual event that challenges participants to drive from Europe to Mongolia, covering more than 10,000 miles through some of the world’s most rugged and remote landscapes.
Chris and Julie made history by becoming the first team to complete the Mongol rally in an electric vehicle (EV), an endeavour that both tested their resilience and demonstrated the viability of EVs in extreme conditions.
Their journey took them through 14 countries, including some of the most challenging terrains in the world, from the mountains of Central Asia to the deserts of Kazakhstan. Along the way, they encountered countless obstacles, such as buckle wheels and flat tyres, extreme weather, and the absence of charging infrastructure in remote regions. Despite these challenges, Chris and Julie’s resourcefulness, coupled with the robust performance of their specially adapted EV and the kindness of strangers, allowed them to push through and complete the rally, raising awareness of the potential of electric vehicles for long-distance travel.
Their participation in the Mongol Rally was also driven by a desire to promote sustainability and eco-friendly alternatives. By successfully completing the rally in an electric vehicle, they highlighted the importance of reducing carbon footprints and showcased how electric cars can endure the rigors of adventurous expeditions.
Their accomplishment was a significant milestone in the world of overland adventures and sustainability, encouraging others to rethink their approach to travel and challenge the perception of electric vehicles being limited to city driving or short distances.
